Good News for Students : No tuition hike for state universities, colleges

June 01, 2011

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced today that there will be no tuition fee increases in state colleges and universities (SUCs). In a press briefing, CHED chief Patricia Licuanan said an agreement was reached between CHED and the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) that SUCs will not raise their tuition fees for school year 2011-2012. "We made a deal that there will be no increase in tuition fee this school year, and they promised," Licuanan said, referring to CHED and PASUC agreement in 2010. She vowed to follow up reports of SUC tuition increases, saying, "Every time something comes out that this SUC raised tuition, we check. So far, what we have seen is that they have stuck to their end of the bargain." (PNA)
